Verizon Minutes Used Firefox Extension Version 0.1

After I wrote the TMobile minutes used Firefox extension, I received many requests to write a similar extension for Cingular, Spring, Verizon, etc. The difficulty, other than finding time to do it, is obviously I don't have account access to any of the other wireless web sites. Finally Mike Schmitt provided me with account access to Verizon and helped me with extensive testing and many useful suggestions. The first version of Verizon minutes Used Firefox Extension has arrived.

Features:

  1. Use Firefox's password manager to manage (retrieve and save) your Verizon Web site user name and password

  2. Optionally take a phone number specified by the user in case you have more than one phone number in the same account

  3. Display peak time minutes usage in the status bar.

  4. Display more detailed usage information in the status bar tooltip (after mouse-over the Verizon minutes usage status bar area), including the following information (if applicable):

    • Wireless Number
    • Peak, off peak and weekend minutes if more than 0
    • In calling peak and off peak
    • Time last call was made
    • In TXT sent and received
    • Other domestic sent and received
    • In PIX/FLIX sent and received
    • Other PIX/FLIX sent and received
    • Time last TXT message was made
    • Time last PIX/FLIX was made

  5. If you double click the Verizon minutes usage status bar area, you are directed to your account page, with no need to login

I installed Verizon Minutes Used but it always tells me minutes loading, but that's as far as it goes.

Same as Ollyluya for me. Says it's loading, but never does. Has the correct minutes when installed but doen't update.

Also, when I fill in options and click OK, I get the following Alert:

"An unknown error ocurred
TypeError: win.gVerizonMinutesUsed has no properties"

Same as "anonymous" posted... Says it's loading, and never does. I, too, get the Alert:

"An unknown error occurred

TypeError: win.gVerizonMinutesUsed has no properties"

Happy to help you develop this further, if that's helpful to you.

for those users who get the TypeError: win.gVerizonMinutesUsed error, i believe you are using the option menu from the firefox's tools->extension... i need to look at that case. but in the meantime, you can simply right click on the status bar area (with the verizon logo) and choose option there, it should work and allow you to input your user name and password.

After ignoring it for awhile, I note that my status bar is updating correctly, and producing information when I hover. I withdraw my complaint. Good Job, but you are right about the Option menu. It is best accessed from the Status Bar, not the FireFox Extension Bar. Thanks

"incorrect user name or password" every time, but double-clicking properly logs into the verizon site, with the telephone # listed in your options box. what gives? any suggestions?

I also get the problem "Loading Verizon minutes used..."

Mousing over it get the following message: "InternalError: too much recursion".
Any suggestions.

Works great! However I thought you might want to know if you set the update rate too large it will get cannot connect. You ought to at least eliminate the very annoying dialog boxes the cannot connect in the toolbar / status bar is enough.

Thanks for your work,
Dale
