Looking forward to installing it tonight! Thank you so much for your continued efforts with this Winston. One question though... Have you discontinued the automatic update feature to allow the program to run with FF3, or did you find a way to provide 'secure updates' (or some other work around)? I guess I am wondering if we now need to be periodically monitoring your site for updates.

I entered my username/password incorrectly and now when I try to change it - it does not take the new information. Is the info stored in a file? How can I change the username/password?

if you have entered the wrong user name, you can go to options(preferences) -> security -> passwords -> show passwords
remove the old phone number (which should appear under the "username" column)

After updating to Firefox 3, mine just says "failed to login" now no matter what I do. Nothing has been changed in the settings or username or password. Also, the same username and password works just fine on verizon's site. When I hover over the error message, it says make sure the region is correct. I've tried both regions numerous times but it makes no difference. Please let me know what you think I can try..

I'm also having difficulty checking my usage.

If I enter my username and password I get the "failed to login" message. The mouse hover message says to check the region, but changing the region doesn't help.

If I add a phone number from my family plan the mouse hover message changes to "check the phone is correct".

Thanks, Winston!

Just a thought....
I am not experiencing this particular problem, but you may want to try logging into VZW's site and actually having FF save the password. Might make a difference now that password handling has been changed with FF3. You should also confirm that no other username/passwords for VZW are currently stored by FF. If so, try deleting them first.

Thank you Winston!! I was lost without it!!

I'm on FF3 and had no data there when I installed but right clicking and going to the Verizon Billing Site placed my minutes in the bar.

The odd thing is that if I hold my mouse over the minutes used, I get a whole list of undefined instead of the breakdowns of my usage. I can live without it since I now know how many I've used but thought I'd let you know.

Again, thanks Winston!!

First - Thanks Winston for all your hard work.

I am having several of the problems cited above. On one computer FF 3.01, cannot log in. I deleted all usernames and PWs in password manager, still no luck. Tried every combination of entering correct login info through site and through extension, uninstall, reinstall, etc. with no luck logging in through extension.

Went to a second computer also FF 3.01. No problem logging in but often (not always) get undefined in my mouse over fields.

Mine continues to say next cycle 0/04/08 which i can deal with. But today 9/13, it says 1 day to next cycle which is obviously wrong and it also shows projected minutes to be the same as the current minutes used. I am using Firefox 3.0.1 on an XP machine.

I have same problem as Kim. When my billing date was 9/12/08 it worked fine. As soon as billing date changed to 10/12/08 the popup show the date as 0/12/08, days to next cycle=1 day after day and projected minutes wrong. Almost looks like you're not capturing enough characters in the date string.

Extension 1.9 on FF 3.0.1 on XP SP# and XP SP2.

are there any plans to eliminate the need for the "east" or "west" setting? Maybe a simple timeout where if it doesn't work with one setting then try the other? I have to manually switch the setting every day or so for it to keep working properly.

For those of you having the issue with only one digit showing up for the month on the cycle end date (i.e. October is showing up as month 0 instead of month 10), thus making the projected minutes incorrect; and are comfortable modifying extensions (i.e. jar files), here’s a fix that seems to be working for me:

Open the verizon-minutes.jar file
Extract mnutesTicker.js

Edit this line:

result = this.parse(responseText, "Cycle\\ ends.*(\\d+)/(\\d+)/(\\d+)");

to read:

result = this.parse(responseText, "Cycle\\ ends\\ (\\d+)/(\\d+)/(\\d+)");

Basically, I changed:
ends.*(
to:
ends\\ (

I am not a programmer, but this seems to be working for me. I would think that if this is not a correct modification, I will see a problem in December when the end date moves to January (i.e. back to a one digit month).

9/28/2008 02:34:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Note that there is a space after:

..."Cycle\\ ends\\

before:

(\\d+)/(\\d+)/(\\d+)");

This is not clear when viewing my previous post.

Can I suggest an option to show the minutes remaining instead of the minutes used? Or an option to display [Minutes Used]/[Minutes Remaining] so I have some sort of immediate context? Also, an option to show the amount of text messages without having to hover over the minutes. Same display options.

This is great.

Could you please make this program more fail-proof? It sometimes gets stuck trying to find the number of minutes and doesn't get anywhere for a very long time. It should auto-detect such failed attempts, abort them, wait, and retry.

Winston...

I'm finding that the minutes displayed on the toolbar for Verizon DIFFER than the minute usage that Verizon tells me through a text message sent just a few minutes AFTER I had your extension "update" to check usage.

In this case, the extension was off by several hundred minutes from what Verizon said I had used...any ideas as to 'why?'

2/11/2009 01:15:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Remember, that if the extension is not filling in your right password, that you need to DELETE the incorrect info in FIREFOX...it's not the extension.

Tools->Options Tab->Security ->Saved Passwords and DELETE the website info, etc., that has the incorrect Password info. Restart Firefox.

If you are finding the extension continues to enter the incorrect user & password for you - this is the reason why - Firefox is storing it...delete it as above and re-try!!

Great extension! I had some problems setting it up, but now it is working great! Thank you!

SUGGESTION:
Is there a way that you can display a "total text message usage" number? For example, I have the $10, 500 message package. I do not care about the IN texts as they are free. I just want to know at a glance how many of my 500 messages I have used. This could simply be done by programing it to add the numbers of the texts sent, texts received, PIX/FLIX sent and PIX/FLIX received.

Sure, I can do the math myself and figure it out, (or go to the verizon site and see it there along with a colored bar) but to have an extra line that just says TOTAL: with this number would really help. This total number could also be displayed in the status bar next the the amount of minutes used.

Hopefully this could be done soon, and I look froward to the next update!

Thanks!
-Scott

May be 3.5b4 related.

Jae, try deleting the username/password from 'both' the Firefox password manager as well as from the Minutes Used options. Once you put the new username/password into Minutes Used, I believe that FF will save this for the next time you open FF. I think you will only be able to use this extension for one VZW account (i.e. one online account with one username/password, and will have no way to switch between two online VZW accounts).

About a week ago, the extension stopped showing up. I've read the recent comments here and tried following the helpful info but to no avail.

For some unknown reason, my MyVerizon login password is not being captured by FF. I've checked Security under Options many times and it's not there. I'm guessing this is why I get no extension icon?

Please, offer any suggestions.

Anon,
Is the Minutes Used extension still showing up on your list of extensions? If so, try uninstalling & reinstalling. If it's not there, you should download it again and install. My understanding is that once you log in to the VZW site, FF should offer to save the username/password if you have save passwords enabled in FF.

Thank you Phil. No, the VZW minutes used icon has been missing for a week or so. I have downloaded the extension many times since but no joy.

When I look at MyVerizon's page info it tells me that their high encryption is blocking the saving of the MyVerizon password.

FF keeps sending a Java alert that I need to save the MV password but I can't.
