Verizon Minutes Used Firefox Extension Version 1.2

Here is the new version that works with the latest verizon's web site. If you choose to show family plan total, let me know if it doesn't work.

I also fixed a bug when displaying in call minutes. N/A will be displayed now if the checking has failed.

Thanks for all your support and donation.

You can download the new version here .

Anybody else having the issue where Verizon account access is timing out. When I lose my min. display in the status bar, I double-click on the VZW symbol. The Verizon page states I have timed out. Once I click through, the plugin will display properly in my status bar again (until the next timeout).

Any way I can correct this?

Thanks,
Harry

Had the same timeout problem. So, in the extension, I changed "Update Minutes Usage Every:" to 5 minutes. Seems to have worked.

Just one thing I noticed, I found the info about when my billing cycle and the projected minute use useful. Is there any way this functionality can be added again?

This seems to have worked for me. If I toggle family plan back on it breaks again.

The family plan is fixed now. I have no idea why it didnt show the usage.

I get intermittent N/A though. After going to the VZN site it works again.

@visitorlnx:

For me it works with the family plan, its just intermittent. When it works it correctly displays usage and projection.

There seems to be an intermittent N/A because of a session timeout. When the N/A shows and I click on "goto billing site" I get a session timeout page not the login page and not the status page. When I first start firefox the extension works fine and I can goto the staus page and even logout and the extension will login again. However, after sitting for a while, the extension displays N/A. I can click through the session timeout page and the extension will display the correct minutes again.

I've been getting results similar to what Anonymous @ 8/15/2007 11:33:00 PM is seeing. Currently, it's showing N/A but the "Go to Verizon Billing Site" link is working fine. Perhaps you could throw up some screenshots of what the page is looking like for you. I posted the one causing my problems HERE.

Also, in the options settings, changing the settings is reflected in about:config but the logo choice is not reflected in the UI. Changing it worked once, but hasn't since. I'm stuck with the large logo version even if the config is set to something else.

For everyone with the N/A issue, I
shortened the request interval to 5
minutes and haven't had N/A since.

8/16/2007 05:12:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

@ Christian:

I'm the Anon@10:33am. I'd tried to shorten the interval as well. After switching it from the default, I set it to 1 minute (to try and see if the request was being sent out). The about:config lastUpdated pref is being updated, but I haven't yet gotten to set up a proxy and check for a HTTP request actually being sent. Regardless of the interval, I haven't had any success w/ the N/A, although that did seem to make the billing site link work more reliably (was getting errors on Verizon's page for a while).

@Anon (8/18, 3:35p):

Not sure if it'll help (haven't actually delved into the extension source yet), but try disabling the NoScript extension and seeing if that helps. I see from your screenshot that it's blocking some scripts from the verizonwireless domain. Also, I'm not familiar with FoxyProxy, but that could be messing with things as well. You might want to isolate this extension to ensure it's not interoperability issues.

Thank you, Winston, for keeping this tool updated for us!

Got one minor issue... For a few (three or four) days after my billing cycle ended, this extension declared that I had a negative number of days until the next cycle. This was presumably because the Verizon website hadn't yet updated the displayed billing date (though I never got around to double-checking this, and the problem's since gone away), but could you code a workaround for this case so that if you detect this condition you'll simply pretend that the next billing-cycle will end one month from the last billing-cycle's endpoint?

Also, I've one feature request for you. Instead of (or in addition to) having an option to show the usage in red if it exceeds a set amount, could you provide an option to do the same if the projected usage exceeds a set amount? This would be far more useful, I think, especially if the projected-usage feature were smart enough to be able to only take into consideration non-free days (i.e., weekdays only).

Thanks again!

i am intermittantly getting the NA as well but after fiddling with it a little tonight : changing from east to west then attempting to update then back from west to east. then putting the priamry phone in and turning off the family plan then updating then switching back. now it works again.

I'm getting the "N/A", I thinks a different reason. When I double-click on the extension I get an error page: "The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable." https://ebillpay.verizonwireless.com/vzw/accountholder/overview/unbilled-usage-minutes.do I don't think they moved it since the regular website link to the usage page doesn't work either. I think its just broken.

Your extension will not work in Firefox 3.0 beta 1 because it is not published on a secure update server. You should probably put it on addons.mozilla.org if you don't have it there.

This is the message I get.

Just discovered this plugin and it's great. One suggestion. If I tell it not to display family plan minutes and only display minutes for a particular phone number, I also want to see the 'Most recent call' for that phone number, not for the family plan. Would that be possible? (or even better, show both 'Most recent call' times, for family plan and the specific phone number

Bug: 'Most recent call' should have been 10:25 AM, but it displayed as 0:25 AM, chopping of the first digit

I like the add-in. I like it very much.

I have, however, identified a security issue. I don't know whether this is documented. I am using Firefox 2.0.0.11.

If you click TOOLS-->OPTIONS and go to SECURITY Tab there is a button that says SHOW PASSWORDS. If you click this button, the REMEMBER PASSWORDS dialog box opens. If you click SHOW PASSWORDS in this dialog box, then the password being used by this add-in is visible.

Winston, I'm a huge fan! Thanks for putting this up!

The last "anonymous" comment is reporting about what I'm seeing. What seems to fix it for the moment is to open the web page on the browser. I still stay logged in, so it doesn't appear to be a session expiration.

Once I open the page, then voila! She works!... at least until the next cycle over.

I'm trying something different... I reduced the Update rate from 30 minutes to 1 minute, just in case it is a session-thing.

Also, I've been examining your source to see if I can figure out how to make it send me a periodic text message with my usage. If I come up with anything useful, I'll let you know.

This does not seem to work for me using a Vista machine. After setting it up for family share, if i shut down and come back later, it will start showing only minutes for the primary account. On my XP machine, it works perfectly and stays showing Family minutes. I am unsure why it does that.

The statement cycle end date is now on the "My Account" page (the first page that comes up after logging in), as opposed to on the "Overview Current Usage" where the actual usage details are posted. Hope that this helps Winston.
