Verizon Minutes Used Firefox Extension Version 1.1

Finally after hours of work over the past weekend, I was able to get the extension to work again with the new verizon web site. I only tested it with family plan in the "east region". Let me know if it doesn't work for you. I may not have much time to look at it until a week later.

You can download the new version here .

While the minutes display now, the hover is indeed not working. The error I get is:

TypeError: this.getLastStatement() has no properties

Thanks

Thanks Winston! Confirmed about the hover popup, though, it doesn't work. I am on the West side with the Family Plan, and everything else works.

There's just one small insignificant glitch - in Family Plan view, it shows one of the other phone numbers at the top of the popup, instead of the primary number - doesn't really matter, though. If I select not to show Family Plan usage, the optional number I enter is used. Thanks for fixing it!

Its not working again. It worked for about 20 minutes for me then it seems verizon changed something again.

It's working fine for me now. One comment is to automate region detection and not have the option anymore. Thanks.

Thanks Winston. It works fine for me, with Region East and family plan.

Also, the first time it ran the tooltip deal worked fine, but subsequent checks forced with "Check Usage Now" give me the "failed to parse the minutes used" message.

I've done a few screen scrapers in the past and I know what a pain it can be. I actually used to have one for Verizon but it was too much effort for the benefit I got.

Thank you for the great work, Winston!

Works with West + Family plan. As another user noted, it lists the wrong "top" (by dictionary sorting) number of all the #'s in the family plan rather than the primary.

Winston, I just made a donation to your cause. I appreciate your hard work on this app. It has probably saved me hundreds of dollars in overages. Thanks.

Thanks for the update! Very useful extension. One bug I've noticed in this update, my 'IN' peak and off-peak minutes show up wrong in the mouseover box. Doesn't affect the functionality of the extension, as those minutes don't count.

Update version 1.1 was working fine for me until this morning. At this time, "Loading Verizon minutes used..." remains in the display, and mousing over gives the message: "failed to parse the minutes used". Double clicking the display correctly takes me directly to the Verizon site: https://ebillpay.verizonwireless.com/
vzw/accountholder/overview/
unbilled-usage-minutes.do

Any ideas?
(Love this extension!)

Thanks

Its so funny that we are pissing off a big company like Verizon.

It is sad a company like Verizon needs to worry about a plugin like this. It is adding value for their customers. Just makes me want a T-mobile Wing even more:-)

Apparently Verizon counts on overages. In the end, it IS a money-maker for them. :( That's ridiculous that they would keep mixing it up, when you can either get the #MIN txt, or simply log on to their site and see. Really doesn't make sense.

I think you're giving this plug-in a little too much credit. I don't believe for a minute that Verizon is intentionally breaking the plug-in. They have a staff that designs the website and it is constantly evolving. If they really wanted the plug-in dead, then they would have made the minutes display as an image or used flash.

It looks like they simply added a couple "†" characters to point to some additional information.

The bigger problem is, due to a lack of an API, the plug-in is susceptible to even the slightest change.

Totally agree with the last post. There is no way that VZW would go through all the trouble of modifying their website simply to thwart this one Firefox extension.

of course Verizon is doing this. It doesn't make sense for a big company to change their website so often and risk confusing some of the older folks just to improve the web layout every month

If they really didn't worry then why isn't this plug-in on firefox's list of extension any more after the problem has been fixed.

How many big companies (ie. Apple, cnn, amazon, etc.) do you know make a layout change at least once a month?

i will look at it this weekend. unfortunately i have no time at all during the week.

i did look at the billing site briefly. it appears that the new version doesn't show family plan total anymore. this will require more code to aggregate each line's usage. anyone can find a page where the total is displayed?

the exact same link doesn't show family info on my computer. it only shows usage grouped by each phone line. that's strange...

On this page:

https://ebillpay.verizonwireless.com/vzw/
accountholder/overview/unbilled-usage-minutes.do

I can see each of my family plan lines broken out. For each line there are 2 columns; one for the line the other for the family plan total.

I believe the problem is that Verizon is constantly changing their website incrementally to their new design.

But it not only their consumer site that is changing. Over the weekend I was in a Verizon store getting a new phone activated, and talked with them about the website changing. The employee told me that they are constantly changing their Employee website.

Hopefully it will stableize soon.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Hello Winston! Thanks for this incredibly useful extension. I understand that, without an API, maintenance of an extension like this can be cumbersome. I'm sending some money your way for the effort.

I do have 1 request. When the data is not parsed properly (as if frequent lately), the status bar reads "Loading Verizon minutes used..."

It would be fantastic if this failure notification was less intrusive. Maybe just "N/A", or something similar. On a cursor-hover, the same data can be displayed.

Just a little thing, but it would make me happy!

Thanks!

I updated to Firefox 3.0.1 and your latest version won't install:

"Not compatible with Firefox 3.1.01"

"Does not provide secure updates"

I know you work very hard on this and appreciate your excellent work!
