Verizon Minutes Used Firefox Extension Version 0.92

The new version fixed the login problem surfaced recently. Many thanks to Philip Larson for helping me find the bug.

You can download the new version here .(save the file locally and then open it from Firefox: File->Open File...)

I've just loaded the extension. Nifty!

Is there a way to pull the details of the recent calls from the Verizon DB ? I'd like to see the actual phone numbers I've connected to since my last bill, as well as this summary of minutes, txt msg, etc..

Thanks for such a useful utility. PP sent. Like 'anonymous' said: Should you be so inclined to add call detail info, I'd sure appreciate it (& would purchase 'license' like any other software)...

Many thanks for this extension!

Any chance of pushing the new version to the Mozilla add-ons website? I wondered if I needed an update, because it stopped working, but auto-update didn't find anything, so I checked here (and found it).

Thanks.

Thank you very much for the extension, but is it just me or has this ext stopped working?

I'm currently running Firfox 1.5.0.8 and for the last week, it's stopped working. Must I upgrade to 2.0?

Great Add On. I am glad you fixed the bug!

I feel pretty foolish, but I can't install the extension -- perhaps because I am new to Firefox. I downloaded the zip file and extracted the contents. When, as instructed, I use Firefox's File | Open File and browse to the folder containing the unzipped files, none of the files present in the folder and subfolders initiate the install process.

As a test, I tried installing a different addon I downloaded from the Firefox site and it installed without any problem. I noticed that it had an .xpi extension, unlike all of the "Verizon Minutes" files. Am I missing an .xpi file, or am I just doing something stupid?

Thanks for any help anybody can render.

the file you downloaded is an .xpi file, not a zip file. dont try to unzip it. simply save it locally, and have firefox open it.

Thanks for the response, Winston, but now I'm feeling like a REAL rube. When I click on the word "here" in the sentence "You can download the new version here" (on the main page), the only file I have the opportunity to download is:

verizon_minutes_used-0.92-fx.zip

When I try to open it using Firefox's File | File Open feature, it launches PKZip.

I'm really embarrassed to require so much hand-holding, but I'm still at a loss as to how to proceed. Obviously, I'm doing something entirely wrong, but I'll be darned if I can figure out what it is.

I wouldn't persist except that I'm really looking forward to trying out your addon.

Thanks again for your help.

that's strange. try to right click on the link and "save the link as...", or try IE? it's an xpi file for sure, not a zip file.

Thanks for this tool! Now if only Verizon would get their act together and let us have the call detail before the end of the month. I talked to a Verizon rep last night because I think I am getting charged incorrectly and I'll have to wait until the end of the month unless I can get a subpoena for MY records. That kind of nonsense won't keep them in business. Apparently even the rep couldn't see my call detail and apparently her manager couldn't either.

Thanks for a great plugin. As a previous poster said, it would be great if the plugin would use Add-ons "Find Updates" feature to update the verizon plugin.

Awesome add-on! Any way to remove the Verizon branding, or is that part of the API's TOS?

I had an earlier version working perfectly, then for a while it said "Loading...."

I found this website and downloaded the latest and opened it w. FF as you said, and now it tells me I've got the incorrect user name or password. And yet when I go to Verizon I can log in with the Username and password I've always used. Wha????

I've tried installing both .91 and .84 . I have never had success with being able to view my family plan usage statistics. The plugin says "Checking Usage." When I roll over the plugin in says "Verizon site is currently unable to display your balance.

When I go to my Verizon billing page, the site reads "The System is currently unable to display your current balance. Please check back later." It has been like that for months. Perhaps this what is causing the problem. However under current usage, the minutes my family plan minutes are listed. I'd love to get this plugin to work. But I have no idea what the problem is.

Now 0.92 is broken. Login information is incorrect when Firefox is first loaded. But a quick check of the options and it will load successfully. It will also load successfully the first time it does a balance check after loading Firefox.

Slightly broken here, too. I know earlier today when I loaded the "Go to Verizon Billing Site" option, it made me login fresh and it added a page telling me about Verizon being down in mid-January. I had to click OK on the page to get it to go to the billing site page. It might be that this new intermediary page messed up the script. Periodically it will say failed to login and I'll have to manually click the Check Usage Now and it will work.

Regardless, it is a terrific tool and I appreciate everything the author has done. Thanks!

Problem the last couple of days. Start Firefox and a dialog pops up that says "Failed to login using the provided username/password. Make sure your region setting is correct in the option menu." The extension then displays "failed to login".

I checked the options and everything is correct.

What is the problem and how do I fix it?

Thanks.

Slightly broken here too. Same problem. It keeps failing to log in unless you manually check the usage. odd.

I am having the same problem too. I wonder if it is related to the fact that verizon has an announcement about upcoming maintenance. It won't actually log you in until you click continue.

Over the last day or so, I've been getting log on errors when starting Firefox. When I select "Check Usage Now", the usage loads.

Same as the last 5 comments. Initial login fail, automatic check every X minutes fails, but manual "Check Usage Now" works.

Great idea. Unfortunately, I have the same problem logging in here. However, if you right click or control click on the verizon logo, and then select "Check usage now", it works.

As of about 5 days ago it stopped working. It said it failed to log in, be sure you have the right regions set in options. It's still set to East the user/pw hasn't changed.

ill go ahead and get in line with everyone else. Still a great piece of extension but initial failure to login when loading homepage but a check usage now and it works just fine.

same here, not sure why a manual check works but automatic doesn't. every auto attempt errors as well.

is there a chance it could be optional for manual only in a future version?

could you all wait till after 12/22 to see if it works again, given that the verizon site is under mainteinance now. apparently they have a back door open for anyone who logs in again after being redirected to the login page. in this case, the account information is displayed. let's see what happens after 12/22.

Winston, two things:

- first, THANKS. Brilliant idea, elegant execution. A home run.

- second, I'm also getting the "failed to login" dialog, and was a bit confused at first as I didn't know where it was coming from (my firefox homepage is actually a huge series of tabs, so I thought one of the websites was causing it.) So you might consider rewriting your error msg from "Failed to login" to "Verizon minutes extension failed to login," etc.

Thanks again for a great resource!

What significance is 12/22? When I go to the Verizon and login, it first brings up a page that says-

------------------------------------

We will be making system improvements from January 17-19, 2007.

Bill payment will still be available online and through your wireless phone. However, the following account features will not be available online or through Customer Service during this time.

* Change User Name
* Change Email Address
* Change Password
* Change Security Question
* Reset Password

My Account will be completely down on January 20-21, 2007.
We plan to be back up on January 21, 2007 at 5 PM Easter Standard Time (EST).

We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience.

------------------------------------

I don't know if this is the page that is causing the login error, but I would think this page will show until Jan. 22, not Dec. 22.

I personally have no problem with waiting and manually clicking on Check Usage Now, it is certainly better than having nothing, and I think this is an awesome utility.

thanks for pointing out my misunderstanding of that new login landing page. (after all, i don't even have a verizon account.)

the problem should be fixed now with version 0.93.
