Verizon Minutes Used Firefox Extension Version 0.94

The new version now works with the latest verizon of the verizon site. Many thanks to Christie for helping me out.

It also uses a small "v" shape checker image instead of the full logo to minimize spaces occupied in the status bar.

You can download the new version here .

The minutes that are showing is for the other number on my account. I have my number entered on the options dialog but it shows my other number instead of the one I have entered. Any fix for this? Thanks for the hard-work!

I also noticed that the "Verizon" logo is being cut off and just shows the "V" now. Is this part of the update or a glitch?

The v is suppose to be like that now j. shore. quick question though. I love this extension but can you do one thing. make it go back to the original logo, or make an option to use either one. thanks. keep it up

Winston,

Thanks for the quick fix.

It's a great application and we really appreciate your work!

It's working for me now, too. I agree, however, that the new "V" looks pretty shoddy. I'd prefer the option to use the old logo or the Verizon "V" logo if possible.

Thanks for all of your work on this, I haven't gone over my minutes once since having this extension.

Excellent! Works like a charm and takes up a lot less space to boot. Thank you so much!

Can't make everyone happy I guess. :D

As a person who requested the smaller logo, I want to say thanks. Makes a huge difference to me.

As always, awesome addon, works perfectly for me.

Winston,

Thanks again for this wonderful extension. And thanks for the quick turn around on the fixes. The Verizon logo is fine any way you want to do it.

Is Verizon breaking this intentionally or is this just a side effect of some other "improvements".

I say... allow the user to choose which logo to use.. I personally preferred the larger full logo. The "V" looks chopped off. What about the verizon checkmark instead?

I do like the smaller footprint tho!

i don't think verizon is breaking it intentionally. this could be just part of their site upgrade. if someone really wanted to break/block this extention, there are better and more effective ways of doing it.

If you use this extension, please donate to Winston! Very handy extension and fast fix turnarounds!

Thanks for the quick turnaround Winston, works great.

I would prefer the full Verizon logo myself. If would be great to give users a choice if possible.

Great job Winston! THANKS!

You're the man! Another quick fix as usual :)
The new version works great, who cares if the V looks a little less than perfect?
Thanks mate!

Wow quick fix, thanks a lot!
This extension is the one that I cannot live without!

I think that the "VZW" would make a nice logo as well, but I like the new one.

Thanks again for a wonderful extension

Dude, I hate to bust your ass, I know you work really hard on this stuff and it is very much appreciated. But.... I keep getting a failed to parse minutes used message. And my text messaging portion of your extension is not available. Any ideas?? Thanks again for your work

any chance this could also check text messages? i go over my 250 text message limit a lot more often than i go over on minutes. thanks.

I got the failed to parse data error until I manually restarted firefox without restoring the session. Meaning, the restart option after installing the plug-in (which restored my session) wasn't sufficient for me. But once I closed the browser completely I was able to get the minutes used. I'm not able to get the txt message count either, but that problem had started (for me anyway) before the login issue.

Thanks for all the hard work! I love the extension.

Thanks I use this on a daily basis. However I do have one request. Could you please allow me to change the color of the displayed minutes. Because I use a very dark FireFox theme and it makes it very hard to see the minutes.

I'm not seeing shared Family Plan minutes, even though I have that option checked in the settings.

Also, you people need to calm down about the smaller logo. The guy is doing the right thing, design wise, by minimizing the amount of space this thing takes up. Seriously, are you having that much trouble remembering that the red V thing stands for Verizon?

It would be even better without a logo at all. It's the number that conveys the information.

Just wanted to say thanks for updating this, it's definitely a must-have for VZW users. Everyone I've shown it to thinks it's awesome.

Also wanted to add myself to the list of the people who don't like the new logo and would prefer it the old way.

I tried to use the app this morning and it says "failed to login using the provided username/password. Make sure your region setting is correct in the option menu." I know the username/password is correct and so is the region. Any suggestions?

I've noticed that the Projected Monthly Minutes is no longer working, it is showing a number far less than my current minute usage.

I appreciate you keeping up this extension with Verizon's changing site.

Thanks

hey, i gotta say i liked the Verizon logo i made, hehe.. Maybe you could let me work on the "v" thing a little bit? I might also be able to take the old one and trim it up a little, but I'll agree with others that I mainly liked it being a little bigger.

hey, i went ahead and fired up photoshop and did a little "compressing" of the old logo, but retaining its look and its transparency. i've gone ahead and repacked v0.94 with my new graphic replacing yours, in case anyone wants it. other than that there are no changes =)

BTW i'm curious how hard it might be to make it a configuration option? i might be able to code it if i look long and hard enough.

well, I couldn't resist the urge to poke around in the code and see if I could figure something out or not, so I did. I've added the option to choose between the old, wider logo (mine), and the newer narrower one (also mine). It does require a restart of firefox to enforce the change, but I figure that's not a big deal hopefully. I've tested it and it's working in my firefox now, though (winston) you might wanna check through for any bugs I may have overlooked (/ introduced, hehe). Really though, I only added snippets here and there.

You can get this new one (which i've named "0.94.1") here.

I thought that the "VZW" would work great as a logo, thanks for the update on this Falco.

Any fixes on the projected minutes & texts?

Thanks for all the hard work - one of the best extensions out there!

Hmm, it's actually not showing my TXT usage at all, i just noticed. Like, at all. No idea why.

I don't really understand the "projected for this month" numbers, though, when there's no way to tell it your billing date. A reliable minutes projection would depend completely on it knowing when your month ends, and for example, mine always ends on the 7th, and I think it depends on when you originally signed up, so everyone's will be different.

To double-check, I just downgraded back to Winston's original 0.94 version, and I still don't have TXT usage showing up in the tooltip. (Just so you can be sure my 'tweaks' didn't break it, hehe)..

Winston, if you have time to work on this with me, I'll donate use of my account again if need be. Or maybe it's something little you can just weed out, I dunno.

No, I noticed that the text and projected minutes were missing and inaccurate before the logo switch - so that's not the problem! ;-)

It would be nice if you would write this extension for the Mac OS version of Firefox.

Thanks Winston.. the verizon checkmark logo looks marvelous!

I've looked into creating a similar feature as a Vista gadget... got a lot of the core work done, but need to work on the screen scraping some more for authentication, and whatnot. Care to provide some insight maybe?

It seems that the problem with the TXT messages not showing up is that Verizon changed the 'TXT' to 'Text' so the regular expression in the javascript fails.

For those savvy enough to edit the extension files, if 'TXT' is changed to 'Text' on lines 497 and 507 of minutesUsed.js the problem appears to be solved (at least in my testing).

I don't really have anyway to host files so I apologize I cannot provide a "compiled" version with this fix.

Many thanks again to Winston! This has been a great extension.

Sorry...one more thing... To properly see the time of the Most Recent TXT message 'TXT' needs to be changed to 'Text' on line 545 of the minutesUsed.js file.
